Beauford SC. Day 59-60

We said our goodbyes to Charlston after waiting out the storm for 7 days. We cast off at 6.45 and crossed Charlston harbor to the ICW. The day started out cold and cloudy but improved as we progressed down the waterway. We were surprised at the lack of traffic but we realized that the storm kept many south-bounders in port up along the coast. From Charlston to Beauford is 65 miles and we were not sure if we would make it in one day but as we progressed down the waterway we decided to kick it up a notch and we arrived at the marina in Beauford by 4.30 in the afternoon. A long day but great to get this far.

Dave and Trudy fron s/v Persephone arrived a short time before us and another couple who have been traveling south with us arrived also. We all went out to one of the charming restaurants on the harbor for dinner and drinks. As we left the restaurant one of the New England cruise ships arrived at the dock and we helped tie the lines on the dock. I am glad we did not meet it on the waterway.
Today Jane, Pretzel and I went on a carriage ride to see the town. We saw the locations for several movies including Forest Gump and Prince of Tides. A neat trip. This is one of the most charming towns we have visited so far.

This tree is called the hanging tree and it is said that dozens of pirates met their fate here.

The ceilings on some porches are painted black denoting the presence of gosts in the house.
