Day 45 Beaufort City Docks, NC

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!!

Today we raised anchor and left by 7:15. The further south & west we get the later sunrise occurs. Tonight we turn the clocks back so now we will have to leave earlier but stop earlier also since darkness will come now about 4:30-5:00. We put full sail up and cruised along the Neuse River in 15k winds before turning into another creek and canal for about 20 miles. This canal ride was different since there was lots of wildlife and large houses with private docks. A pair of dolphins joined our trip near the end of the canal. This is the third time we have seen dolphins but not been able to get them on camera. The canal ended in Beaufort harbor and we saw the Atlantic for the first time since Cape May, NJ. This is the point where people decide to take an outside route or continue along the ICW. Our friends on s/v Persephone are leaving tomorrow to go outside for an overnight to Cape Fear. We are going to continue along the inside route and anchor. We have been anchored since last Sunday and it's time to get back to a dock to plug in, fill up, and wash everything again.

Shrimp boats!!

We thought we would not see any Halloween traditions, actually missed the big party we had last year in Solivita. Once arriving at the docks though we did laundry, cleaned up, and left the boat to eat out. Dave & Trudie from Persephone joined us after dinner and we strolled the town and came back to the Dock House to listen to their band. Everyone of all ages was in costume all over the town. It was quite fun!! There were a lot of pirates around. Apparently Beaufort is one of Blackbeard's haunts and he was shipwrecked outside the harbor and they are excavating it now.
