Southport marina, Cape Fear River

We woke up a little later than intended this morning in Myrtle Beach. The first bridge on our trip was 6 miles away and only opened on the hour after 7am. We had 45 minutes to make the opening and of course we were driving into the wind and current. We crossed the entrance to Little River and crossed into North Carolina. Jane decided to call the bridge and check on the opening. No answer, phone disconnected. Peter decided to call boat US for local knowledge and low and behold the bridge which was aging us by the minute did not exist any more.  It was replaced a few years ago by a fixed tall bridge. Son of a *****. Well at least we got an early start to the day.
Rain and more rain. Today we wore our entire heavy weather gear. Is this June or February? Conditions deteriorated as we approached the Cape Fear River so after passing Southport marina and getting hammered by the wind, rain and seas we decided enough was enough and we turned around and took a slip in the marina for tonight.
We were here by mid-day so we decided to take care of some boat work. Peter changed the engine oil and filter and also the 2 fuel filters. This should take care of the rest of the trip. Jane is taking care of laundry so when we leave tomorrow we will be in good shape. It looks like we will have some more rain for the next few days but we will take it day by day and keep knocking off the miles.
