Day 15 Bert Jabin's Yacht Yard, Annapolis

Annapolis Harbor before the Boat Show

This is the beginning of our third week on our trip South. We said good bye to a very quiet Annapolis Harbor after an early morning exodus of boats. On Sunday about 3 rows of town moorings are off limits and they move in floating docks to accomodate all the boats for the boat show. I think our mooring is one in the off limits zone. At 10AM we decided to head over to Back Creek to the marina which will be home for the next 10-12 days. We arrived assigned to a floating dock next to 2 Travalifts (machines which lift boats out of the water). It was very busy and noisy so the dock mate who tied us in offered us a slip around the corner in a quieter part of the yard where there are a couple live-aboards. At least we will be protected from the boat show madness which arrives here. Coming in to Back Creek we only had a narrow navigation through the channel because of anchored boats already staking their place. Our slip is behind a 55' Tanaya and between pilings, our worst nightmare. Well Peter motored the dingy over and 2 dock hands motored Kinvara into this tight little spot. Thank goodness we only have to pull out of it when we leave!! I later found on the way over that one of the "dock hands was Bert Jabin's son. Everyone was soooo nice to us and very accommodating. We have met 2 couples who are liveaboards; one maybe late 20's-early 30's who have run a yacht detailing business for 2 years and are hoping to move further South in a year or two. The other couple in their mid 30's are refurbishing a 55' yacht and then taking it to the Caribbean in late November for the owners. They are anchored in the Creek nearby. Finally, we have now joined the ranks of live-aboards when our fold up bikes appeared on deck. No stores really close by. I'm going to try to get Pea Pod delivery to the marina here tomorrow.

Yikes...the folding bikes...a real sign of "cruisers" or "snowbirds"

We are squished in beside the dock and a piling, behind another boat along the same dock.
